Making A Purchase
Making a purchase could not be easier. Picture our website as a Supermarket. Just browse our Catalogue, and click on any items that you wish to "Add to your shopping cart". No money changes hands yet and you can carry on browsing all day. Feel free to abandon your cart in the middle of an aisle and run away. We'll never know; there are no security cameras! After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for the details that we need to be able to satisfy your order.
We are happy to accept Visa, MasterCard, Switch and Maestro credit and debit cards. If you are shopping from outside the UK, place your order and your card company will convert the Pounds Sterling transaction to your own currency.
Whilst the quickest way to send your card details is via our 128 bit encrypted internet ordering system, you may also send your credit card information via phone, fax or post. Once your order has been accepted, an email is sent automatically, confirming the details you have given.
Shipping And Handling
** UK SHIPPING **
We have negotiated a 2/3 day delivery rate of £8.25 for all UK orders above 2kg. Below this weight, one of us will just have to walk down to the Post Office....
There are of course some dark parts of the British Isles where carriers fear to tread: the wild and wooly highlands and islands, beautiful downtown Belfast and the gin palaces of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isles of Man & Wight for example. If you are ordering from one of these exotic haunts, please expect a higher price for parcels over 2kg.
** EXPORT SHIPPING **
For parcels weighing below 2kg, we will send your delivery by the Royal Mail's small packet service. Above 2.0kg we are having pretty good success using a company called www.parcel2go.com. They're an intermediary for several larger groups including Fedex, Interlink, DPD and DHL. Typical delivery times are 5 days to either the Antipodes, the Colonies or the Continent and we have included these rates in our catalogue's database together with their current fuel surcharges.
Shipping costs are set in weight bands. There is a sliding scale up to 2kg, then a fixed price for parcels from 2kg to 10kg, then a higher fixed price for parcels from 10kg to 25kg. As you can imagine....a parcel weighing 2.5kg or 10.5kg is frustratingly expensive. One way out of this is to order more (hooray!) or less (boo!) items in order to improve the shipping cost per kg. Send us a message and we'll be happy to propose a solution based on the weights of the kits. We can often leave out an item (which you already have in stock) in order to get your order into a lower shipping band.
We must reserve the right to confirm any adjustments BEFORE we process your order. Please check our main site for some simple suggestions to minimise export shipping costs.
Delivery Lead times
In general, we "Make to Order" rather than "Make to Stock". We will normally despatch your UK orders in 3 business days. International orders are generally despatched in under 5 days.
Occasionally, you'll catch us waiting for certain items (typically castings) to arrive.... At our option, we may decide to forward your incomplete kit together with a note declaring the shortage(s). This allows you to make a start; we will then forward, at our expense, the missing items once they are available. If the delay is likely to be substantial, or if we are missing an item without which you can't start your project, we'll get in touch and discuss it with you - under these circumstances we won't process your payment until everything is ready to ship.
Liability
We the suppliers, Hemingway Kits, will not accept responsibility for personal injury or damage to property arising directly or indirectly out of the use by customers of our kits and workshop accessories nor will we accept liability for any claims made for personal injury or damage to property resulting from customers carrying out any instructions supplied by us (such instructions being for information purposes only).
The placing of an order shall be deemed as acceptance of the above terms of business.
European VAT
Hemingway Kits is registered for European VAT (17.5%) and all of the prices shown include this tax. Our registration number is 876 6053 91. For shipments made to customers living outside of the European Economic Community this tax will be discounted from your order before we process your card payment. The discount however does not apply to shipping costs or orders for plans or books.
Incidentally, if you play with your calculator, you'll see that to remove 17.5% from a tax-inclusive price you need to divide it by 1.175 (NOT multiply it by 0.825..).
Credit Card Security
All credit/debit card details are encrypted when your order is placed using the latest 128 bit encryption. Details are only decrypted after they reach our system; they are not held in clear text on any website. In line with UK Data Protection, card details are permanently deleted from our systems once authorisation is obtained.
We are strongly committed to your security; we have NEVER received a complaint.
Privacy Policy
Hemingway Kits do NOT disclose customers' information to third parties. Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart once you have selected an item, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option.
Your phone number is treated with complete respect. We will use it only if there is a problem with your delivery.
Our Returns Policy
It is very important to us that you are satisfied with your order. The occasional faulty casting is inevitable from the low volume processes that we employ. Therefore any such casting returned will be replaced free of charge, together with a credit note for the shipping cost which you have incurred. We cannot, however, accept claims for labour or other costs arising from such faults.
There's also an infinitessimally small chance that YOU will scrap an item?! Please get in touch and you'll find we show as much mercy as possible in pricing a replacement part for you.
All products are described and shown as accurately as possible. However, customers are given the full benefit, AT ONCE, of any improvements to designs and specifications.
